Why Financial Literacy Matters Early

Research consistently shows that money habits form by age seven. Yet most young people reach adulthood without basic knowledge of budgeting, saving, or understanding credit.

Think back to your own education. How many hours were spent on quadratic equations compared to understanding how interest compounds? How many lessons covered the mechanics of a mortgage versus the anatomy of a frog?

Children learning with enthusiasm

The gap between what schools teach and what life demands has never been wider. Young people graduate into a world of student loans, credit cards, pension schemes, and investment apps with virtually no preparation for any of it.

We started Wave Cascade because we believe this needs to change. Not through dry lectures or intimidating spreadsheets, but through hands-on activities, real-world scenarios, and age-appropriate conversations that build genuine understanding.

Our approach recognises that a ten-year-old and a sixteen-year-old need different things. A primary school child benefits from learning about saving and delayed gratification through games and stories. A teenager preparing for university needs practical skills around budgeting, avoiding debt traps, and making their money work harder.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We believe children learn best when they feel engaged, not lectured at. Every session combines discussion, activities, and practical exercises that mirror real financial decisions.

Whether it is running a mock shop to understand pricing, playing scenario games about saving versus spending, or analysing real advertisements to spot manipulation techniques, our methods stick because they connect to genuine experience.

Parents consistently tell us their children come home eager to discuss what they learned. That enthusiasm is what separates lasting financial education from forgettable classroom content.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age groups do you work with?

Our programmes cater to young people aged 7 to 18, with different curricula designed for each developmental stage. We have three main age brackets: 7-11, 12-15, and 16-18.

Where do sessions take place?

We run sessions at our Manchester city centre location, within partner schools, and can arrange private group sessions at community venues across Greater Manchester.

How long is each session?

Standard sessions run for 90 minutes, though our school workshops can be adapted to fit assembly slots or half-day formats. The Pre-Uni programme sessions extend to two hours given the complexity of topics covered.

Do parents need to attend?

Parents are welcome but not required for sessions. We provide summary notes after each session so you can continue conversations at home. For children under 10, we recommend parents stay for the first session.
